Palatine Children Apprenticed by Governor Hunter 1710-1714
(information collected by Deb McAuslan)
March 2017
Orphan Children
For purposes of her talk, Deb included details about several young children. Because their parents were not known to her, for dramatic purposes she picked appropriate names for parents and then crafted stories about the parents dying on the voyage. In reality, they were just a few of the children bound to work as apprentices on arrival in New York. The full list is found in Documentary History of New York, E. B. O’Callaghan, (c)1849, Vol. III, pg 566-567.
